The Dr. Mary Trust for Autism was established by the late Dr. Mary Smith. It was her final wish that her estate be used to establish a trust that would continue to serve people on the autism spectrum. The Dr. Mary Trust for Autism provides grant money to organizations that provide services to children and adults on the autism spectrum and their families using evidence-based treatment. Dr. Mary Smith dedicated her life to the families she served and we will continue that legacy through this Trust, adding preference to organizations that help to fill gaps in services that families are currently experiencing. For instance, there is currently a lack of services for transitioning to adulthood for those on the autism spectrum, so organizations that provide services specific to those needs would be given higher consideration. However, any organization providing services in this space should apply.
In the 1990’s, Dr. Mary revolutionized the way we diagnose and treat children on the autism spectrum in Ohio. She was relentless in pushing for the best, evidence-based treatment for the families she served, sometimes at the risk of her own career. We are keeping her legacy alive and ensuring that her passion continues helping families today.
